Viv La Woz

St Lucia, the island of my early years and ancestral roots, recently welcomed a special visitor - my eldest daughter. Embracing the island's rich cultural tapestry, she took part in a flower society festival, a tradition that's been passed down through our family.

Our clan belongs to La Woz, or the Rose Society, while our friendly rivals, La Marguerite - the Daisy Society - add to the vibrant rivalry. The true identity of their 'daisy' is shrouded in mystery, with whispers suggesting it could be gomphrena or bachelor's buttons, flowers that frequently grace my own floral creations from spring to fall.

The joy I feel to see my daughter immersing herself in these traditions, walking the same paths I once did, alongside her grandmother, great-grandmother and namesake great-great-grandmother - words simply can't capture it.
